Small entryway essentials for a transitional house

Small entryway can have a grand entrance feel if decorated correctly. Rule of thumb, use fewer items but do select them with style and functionality in mind.  When working with a small entryway or not clearly defined one from the rest of the house, you need to use space efficiently to avoid a cluttered space.

Rule 1: Small or medium size console table

Stylish console table will transform the space with little efforts. If you are able to splurge, than you can find a beautiful piece anywhere from $600 and up, however if you are like me (looking for budget-friendly deals and look-alikes) then Internet world is the land of opportunities for you, my friends!

I came across this gorgeous piece at Gump's that would perfectly fit at my entryway, unfortunately it is way out of my budget for the console table. Sight! After little of research, I was pleased to find two look-alikes that you can purchase online, and the best part both retailers do offer additional discounts from time to time.

Original - Gump's Mandarin Console Table  $799

Look alike- Pier 1 Dao Console Table $300

Another look alike- Overstock Wooden Petit Console Table $265

I've narrowed down to these choices:
1 2 3 4 5
Rule 2: Must have mirror

Beautifully framed mirror will visually enlarge the space and will create a chic look all at once, but the fun part is that you can't go wrong with the size here. The bigger the mirror the more grand the entryway will look, so have fun with mirror shopping!

Rule 3: Seating, storage and decor items

Must have items at the entry way are beautiful mirror, ottoman that can be stored under the console table for for times when you need to seat down to take off your shoes, boxes where you can store away little items and your keys,  a decor item that represents the style of your house to set the tone, and you can't forget about fresh flowers.

If you leave in rainy and snowy climates, then I would definitely include an umbrella basket and a shoe tray that you can store under the console next to the ottoman. Important thing to remember is to not clutter the space with too many items to avoid main features to be lost in the space.

When shopping for entryway items, remember to incorporate and coordinate with the rest of your house style and architectural features, but do let your personality shine in in every selected item for the entryway space. Small area can feel large with properly combines textures, colors and sizes, and the item functionality in mind.
